Creating An Altar
Once you have an idea of the goddess or god you want to connect with, build an altar in the deity’s honor, to help create your magical touchstone. An altar is not absolutely necessary to make contact, but it does help foster a stronger relationship. Many magical books will list correspondences of colors, incense, perfumes, animal and such connected with each deity. The correspondences come from past practitioners who have connected to the gods. We use this information to help build a bridge. Once you have a relationship with the deities, you can ask them directly about the altar.
Use this past wisdom to build your altar space. If you already have a working altar with ritual tools, you can make a space for this deity, or erect an entirely separate altar. For Macha, I used the colors black and red for candles and altar cloth, crow feathers, a stone carved with a primitive horse drawing, a Celtic knot necklace and myrrh incense. Myrrh has nothing specific to do with Macha, but I associate it with dark goddess energy and simply like the scent. Use your intuition.
Everyday go to the altar, and ask to strengthen your connection with the deity. Light candles and incense with intention of making the connection. Some traditions leave offerings of food, honey, milk or wine. Follow both your research and intuition.
